I must announce the official movement of this blog|site. My new site address can be found at http://onlyrealthANgs.com . I thank my many dope subscribers for keeping up with me through Blogger and rummaging around my mind. OnlyRealThangs will continue in the suzi.am tradition...but with higher usability, functionality, and daily posting.

On my new site is also collections of releases I've been a part of, and media-related clips, and new songs shared weekly. Honestly, it will go to paint a better picture of my vision and passion for.....everything real.......

Feeling nostalgic. Grace is an inspiration, so is Keith; as two individuals who chose art over everything and have made a deep imprint in how people perceive who can do it.

For Grace's video I'm Not Perfect [But I'm Perfect For You] Keith painted Grace's body, as well as a huge piece of fabric she later dons as a skirt. Vicious. The song has ill, thoughtful references to race, class, and re-defining standards of beauty in our world. Both Grace and Keith have worked to do just that.

Cameo from Andy Warhol. Beats out all shiny rims videos.

Fresh Daily Videoshoot = success.

Digging for vintage gear in NYC = fail.

Coming up on some TIMELESS publications while there = win.

In addition to the various random things I collect, archival mags and publications are my favorite. I have editions of EBONY from '67 with pictures of King & Coretta in Jamaica. Diahann Carroll on the cover as Julia...Elizabeth Taylor when on husband #3. Gear is cool, but printed words and images are priceless.

New to the collection:

This is by far the most intriguing new piece. I picked it up just admiring the pages of art. Turns out that this is the official program guide for the MTV Music Awards ceremony that year, for the guests who attended. Christian Slater was the host, and along the list of nominees included Annie Lennox, Janet Jackson, Digable Planets, Dr. Dre and more. The theme of the program was dope. In 1993, MTV set out to spread a message of unity and challenge discrimination in the world, so they included art from many different sponsors that spoke to their message. Hence, "You Can't Judge A Book By It's Cover". The bittersweet beauty of this is that I don't think we'll ever see an MTV like this again in our lifetimes. This is before sole profits and media censorship ruled what we saw on tv.

The last score, Spring 2009 issue of Viral Status Magazine [site]. A new print publication created by emerging NYC designer, Castro. VS has an ill concept, clean design, and good content...the core of any leading mag. Bonus points, they featured me in a section... I had no idea. Could it be we're making history one print at a time? Online is cool, but print lives forevr. Vive la mag.

Nice inspiration as I head up to NYC today to shoot Fresh Daily's video for 'Love Breakdown' off his forth-coming album Gorgeous Killer..., in stores 08.18. Brooklyn will always remain the mecca of artists representing true emcee culture. Good to see it is still strong.
