Mreeuh Chang. Get to know her because her mind is a wonderland and her work is hi-fi. I'm not even sure if she's graduated hi-school yet which makes her even more fierce. This fall, she'll be coming to Philly on scholarship to Moore College of Art & Science...girl get the $. These are some photos from her project entitled The Receipt where she cleverly intertwines fashion aesthetic, grainy analogue photo, and urban decay. Ill $ghit. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 Braketime

The holiday weekend winded down with me having a dope Memorial Day BBQ at Sundown last night with friends and Philly x Brooklyn fam outside the crib. It was a really chill session to end a full week of work and connecting with folks. This week, after 'Girl Of My Dreams' @Public Assembly, I got to catch up with some out-of-town homies La Melodia from Amsterdam, and Cerebral Vortex...the international pirate, in Brooklyn Sunday as we shot some scenes for 'Good Reason' with Jamerson. [Coming soon ^_^]

As we were all building at the BBQ last night, I realized the only thing missing was a projector screen to give up some sick visuals for us all to nod to. Devonwho's new experimental vid for his track Braketime would have definitely been in the player:

devonwho "braketime" from devonwho on Vimeo.

The video features compiled footage from Devonwho's stay in Europe. Slow mo + Movement in rewind + Gritty Filters over the beats gives it the raw quality. Stay tuned...we've got a whole channel in store.

Friday, May 22, 2009 On My Plane To Manila:

Been listening to this tune since high school. Been a crazy few weeks. Show tonight in Brooklyn @ Public Assembly. A lot on the brain, most good, some 96hip-hop thoughts, Gal Costa vox and basslines that don't explain themselves. More shoulders, less sleeves. It's summer. We move.

Friday, May 8, 2009 plug me in kid.

Who said you can't have it all in this digital world? This is probably the coolest MPC-related thing I've seen since I caught this bag in the window of a bike shop on 2nd street [Phill¥].

Although those two things are not nearly as yummy as this one:

2 words: graduation + presents. [Hint hint hint] , or just good ways to get me to love you long time. As far as the USB goes, the company also has an SP 1200 in stock, but the website reads "we expect to sell out of these items on May 8th". *Looks at the calender....* Don't sleep: click here for more info.

Monday, May 4, 2009 Affirmative.

Here are some flicks from last week's SAY YES at the Walnut Room with Sammy Slice, me, and the Say Yes band. It was a really dope time, jamming live to a lot of the tracks on World Excerpts 1-9. The horns were an added surprise, and an ill addition to the music. There were a lot of beautiful people in the spot and some really good energy. Peace to Tiffany Yoon for the images. Love to the amazing band + everyone who came out. If you didn't make it, it's cool...we'll do it again soon. (^_^) Video is on the way too.....blaow.

Saturday, May 2, 2009 a $40,000 '45.

[From BBC] "A rare Motown seven inch single has fetched a world record price of £25,742 after its seller Kenny Burrell, from Fife, put it up for auction."
This whole great thing reminds me of three things:
  1. The U.S. is just a small faction of music lovers in the world.
  2. The world [still] loves wax.
  3. The digital age may ruin us all. Will we be auctioning rare .mp3s in the future? No fun.

The copy of unreleased 1965 single Do I Love You (Indeed I Do) by Frank Wilson is one of only two in the world.

Motown boss Berry Gordy had all other copies destroyed after Wilson moved into songwriting and producing.

Leicestershire-based record dealer John Manship, who organised the sale, said the buyer wished to remain anonymous.

Whereas the songwriter went on to achieve success writing hits for The Supremes and The Four Tops, the Do I Love You song disappeared until the late 1970s.

It resurfaced as an "instant anthem" when it was first heard on the Northern Soul scene in England.

Mr Manship said: "It was considered at the time as one of the greatest discoveries ever." Read the full story here.

With that in mind, my 7" drops soon.....
